The Centre is considering easing cross-ownership rules between airlines and airports to attract greater investment and improve efficiency in India’s aviation sector.
The proposal could allow airport operators to own airlines and vice versa, subject to regulatory safeguards aimed at ensuring fair competition. Officials believe the move could encourage infrastructure development, strengthen financial viability and improve connectivity as air travel demand continues to grow.
The government is consulting stakeholders before taking a final decision. If approved, the policy change would mark a significant shift in India’s aviation framework and could open new opportunities for airport developers, airlines and investors.
