The European Union has fined AliExpress €625 million for failing to prevent the sale of unsafe products, including hazardous toys and dangerous cosmetics, on its online marketplace.
Regulators said the platform did not adequately identify or remove products that posed risks to consumers, violating the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA). The European Commission said AliExpress failed to implement effective safety checks and risk management measures despite repeated warnings.
The company said it is reviewing the decision and remains committed to improving product safety. The ruling underscores the EU’s tougher stance on holding major online marketplaces accountable for consumer protection.
