Apple launches 14-Inch MacBook Pro with M6 chip

Apple has unveiled its new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M6 chip, introducing performance improvements, enhanced artificial intelligence processing and upgraded connectivity to its professional laptop range. The new model is designed for developers, video editors, designers and other users who need high computing power for demanding applications.

The MacBook Pro starts at ₹2,39,900 in India, while eligible education customers can purchase it at a starting price of ₹2,27,900. Pre-orders begin on October 28, 2026, with sales starting November 6 through Apple Stores and authorised resellers.

The launch marks Apple’s latest push to improve Mac performance through its in-house silicon technology. The M6 chip combines CPU, GPU and Neural Engine capabilities to handle conventional computing tasks, graphics-intensive workloads and supported AI features more efficiently.

Apple says the new processor delivers up to 30% faster graphics performance and up to 25% faster on-device AI performance compared with the previous-generation M5 chip. These improvements could help users working with high-resolution video, 3D graphics, image processing and AI-assisted software development.

The M6 features a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU. Apple has also integrated Neural Accelerators into its GPU cores, allowing supported AI workloads to use the graphics architecture for additional processing power. The design is intended to improve performance in applications involving image generation, language models and other machine-learning tasks.

According to Apple, the M6-powered MacBook Pro can deliver up to 13 times faster performance for selected AI language-model workloads compared with the 13-inch MacBook Pro featuring the M1 chip. Such comparisons depend on the task, software and configuration, so real-world results may differ.

The new laptop also includes a dual 16-core Neural Engine for AI-related processing. By running supported tasks directly on the device, on-device AI can reduce reliance on cloud servers and help users work with compatible features without continuously sending data over the internet. However, the availability of individual AI functions depends on software support, language and region.

Memory performance is another focus of the upgrade. The MacBook Pro starts with 16GB of unified memory and can be configured with up to 32GB. Apple says memory bandwidth reaches up to 170GB per second, helping applications access data quickly while users work across multiple programmes or handle larger creative projects.

Battery life is rated at up to 24 hours on a single charge. Apple says this represents an improvement for users upgrading from older Intel-based MacBook Pro models or M1-powered systems. Actual battery performance will vary depending on screen brightness, applications, network activity and workload.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro retains a Liquid Retina XDR display with peak HDR brightness of up to 1,600 nits and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. A nano-texture display option is available for users who want to reduce reflections in bright environments. The display is designed for professional workflows that require detailed visuals, including photo editing, video production and graphic design.

Connectivity has also received attention. The laptop supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, providing access to newer wireless standards when used with compatible networks and accessories. Physical connections include three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI port, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 charging and a headphone jack. The system supports up to two external displays.

For video calls and multimedia work, Apple has included a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera, a three-microphone array and a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio. Fast charging can take the battery to 50% in approximately 30 minutes when a compatible high-wattage USB-C power adapter is used.

The MacBook Pro runs macOS 27, Apple’s latest operating system for the device. Software features and supported AI tools are intended to improve productivity, content creation and everyday interactions. The overall experience will depend on software compatibility and the availability of specific features.

Apple has also highlighted the laptop’s environmental credentials. The company says the device contains 45% recycled material overall, including recycled aluminium in its enclosure and recycled cobalt in its battery. These measures form part of its broader effort to reduce the environmental impact of its products.

The new MacBook Pro is positioned as an upgrade for professionals who need more processing power for creative and technical work. Users with older Intel-based or M1-powered laptops may find the performance improvements more significant, while those with recent-generation MacBook Pro models will need to assess whether the additional processing power justifies the cost.

With its M6 processor, faster graphics, enhanced on-device AI capabilities and Wi-Fi 7 support, Apple’s latest 14-inch MacBook Pro focuses on performance rather than a complete redesign. Its premium price means the biggest benefits are likely to appeal to users whose workloads can take advantage of the new hardware.
